Chesapeake Bay”, aiming to restore large, continuous
blocks of wildlife habitat by re-enrolling landowners into
conservation agreements and providing new landowners with
information on land protection options.

RC&D – ($12,500) Support a staff person
to assist in the implementation of last year’s Waste
Solutions Forum recommendations. Assist with the promotion
of three educational events.

Bay Trust – ($100,000) Add support to a pooled
Chesapeake Bay Funders Network Agricultural Funding Collaboration.
Funding will be divided between projects that reduce manure
and projects that improve technical assistance to farmers.

training for young farmers to include environmental matters
in the curriculum, promoting responsible agricultural practices
that ensure environmental sustainability.

support with interest noted in clean air related activities
in Maryland and in Virginia, and future national coalition
building activities.

effectively Maryland is meeting its responsibilities under
the federal Clean Air Act and prepare recommendations for
improvement to the state program.

Public Interest Research – ($10,000) Support
a dialogue between scientists, policy makers, the public and
the media on the importance of addressing global warming.
Work on a Climate Action Plan.
National
Wildlife Federation – ($60,000) Develop and
disseminate a report on the effects of global warming to the
fish and wildlife of the Chesapeake region, including a list
of recommended solutions. Engage networks of sportsmen and
wildlife-oriented groups.

Chesapeake Bay Foundation
– ($35,000) Strengthen stormwater regulatory actions
by participating in MS4 and NPDES permit renewals. Improve
knowledge and participation of regional watershed groups in
local stormwater management.
James River
Association – ($50,000) Work on sediment and
erosion compliance from construction sites, improve stormwater
permits and regulations in new and existing development, and
examine the overall effectiveness of sediment and stormwater
requirements to determine if current standards prevent degradation
of waters.
Pennsylvania
Environmental Council – ($65,000) Complete
Phase II of the ACT 167 stormwater management plan in Montour
County, providing post-construction stormwater control standards;
work on the adoption of new municipal ordinances in Montour
County consistent with the plan.
Herring
Run Watershed Association – ($18,000) Support
the Baltimore stormwater action coalition to establish a baseline
of citizen knowledge about stormwater impacts in the Patapsco/
Back River Basin to create an effective messaging plan.
Potomac
Conservancy – ($20,000) Work in Montgomery
and Frederick Counties to address limitations in existing
stormwater regulations and highlight the simplicity and cost-effectiveness
of modern low-impact development techniques. The Potomac Conservancy
will also work with land trust in West Virginia on land conservation.
LIVING
SHORELINES - ($155,570)
Chesapeake Bay Trust – ($75,000) Continued
partnership with CBT/ NOAA/ NFWF to issue Living Shoreline
grants to watershed organizations, academia, homeowner associations,
local governments, etc.
CBF/ Burke
& Association – ($80,570) Promote Living
Shorelines by working with regulators, landowners, contractors
and scientists; train shoreline managers and contractors on
basic living shoreline treatment types; implement and document
demonstration projects.
LAND
PROTECTION - ($332,422)
1000 Friends of Maryland
– ($20,000) Support Reality Check, a statewide visioning
exercise with participants looking at anticipated population
and job growth and the associated development on the economic,
social, infrastructure and environmental systems.
National
Center for Smart Growth – ($26,000) Help sponsor
the four Maryland Reality Check workshops in May and June
2006; identify policy changes that will be needed to change
trends identified by participants.
James River
Association – ($39,422) Follow-up from a project
examining the development codes and ordinances of all 45 major
counties and cities of the James River watershed. Phase II
will communicate scores and recommendations to the elected
officials and planning staff of those 45 jurisdictions and
at workshops and meetings. One locality will be targeted for
a focused effort.
University
System of Maryland Foundation – ($12,000) –
Support the Summit on the Comprehensive Effects of Development
on Water Quality.
Ducks Unlimited
– ($25,000) Convene national and regional experts to
develop a consensus “full-cost accounting” report
on the full impact of land development on water quality, including
impervious surface area, vehicle emissions, etc.
Eastern
Shore Land Conservancy – ($75,000) Support
ESLC to expand their capacity in a strategic way to address
the enormous growth issues facing the Eastern Shore of Maryland,
working with local governments on land use/ development decisions.

of Maryland – ($25,000) Support Partners for
Open Space – increase the visibility and highlight the
benefits of Program Open Space, and increase and maintain
support for land conservation throughout the State of Maryland.

poll with extensive county level data, in support of “Smarter
Growth for Maryland”, raising the prominence of growth
and its impacts.

involving fifty new groups; facilitate common priorities among
members.

Rivers Initiative, a 30-member partnership including the James

Conservancy, and Friends of the Rivers of Virginia to conduct
education and outreach on the cost of restoring and protecting
our waterways.

League of Conservation Voters Education Fund –
